Scotland had three days of beautiful summer weather recently, and we were lucky enough to be taking a short break in the Scottish Borders at the time. We stayed in Peebles, a small town on the beautiful River Tweed.
We took long walks in both directions along the river and a circular walk round Venlaw Hill.
After a dull summer, during which I struggled to find butterflies in my butterfly surveys around Edinburgh, we were very happy that the sunshine brought out the butterflies in the Borders. We were particularly delighted to see a couple of Small Coppers, gorgeous tiny butterflies, though the one below is looking a little faded:
This post is shorter than usual, partly due to having been away, but also having received some bad news on our return. I hope to be able to get back to more in-depth posts next week, but there may be a bit of a delay on that.
